Forearm Support | Recovery requiring immobilization for healing
EMO SPB200 Breathable Forearm Support, also known as an American Sling or Velpeau Sling, is an orthopedic device designed for absolute rest and stabilization of the upper limb. Unlike standard slings, the breathable fabric is focused on prolonged use with greater thermal comfort. Its main function is the immobilization and support of the arm, forearm, and hand, neutralizing the effect of gravity on the injured limb and allowing bones, tendons, or skin to recover without the stress of weight or involuntary movements.
Indications
- Trauma: fractures or dislocations of the shoulder, humerus, radius, or ulna.
- Soft tissue injuries: recovery from severe burns or infections that require immobilization for healing.
- Subluxation: when the shoulder joint partially slips out of place.
- Inflammatory conditions: painful sequelae of bursitis, arthritis, or acute pain crises.
- Post-operative: protection of the operated area during the critical healing phase.
How it works
Mobility control: restricts sudden movements of the shoulder and elbow. Load distribution: the weight of the arm is distributed evenly across the orthosis, avoiding overload on the neck or a single point of the shoulder. Swelling reduction: by keeping the arm in the correct position, usually at a 90° angle or slightly elevated, distal edema (fluid accumulation and swelling in the fingers and elbow) is prevented. Thermal comfort: the perforated and breathable fabric allows for air circulation, which is essential to prevent skin irritation, especially in cases of burns or prolonged use.
